Quick Catch up
Well, should have started this a month ago, but I didn't, so here we are. I have Milo, who is a Thoroughbred gelding I purchased for the hefty sum of $700 last year. I've had horses on and off my adult life, but a head injury (with a helmet) and the loss of a mare had gotten me out of horses 3 years ago. Last year, I decided it was time to come back (don't we always?) and I bought Milo.
He was the first and only horse I looked at, breaking all my rules, but there was that instant connection and I just knew it was right. He was horribly thin. I boarded him near me, which was a completely new experience for me. He gained some weight, but after winter, some health issues made me bring him to my parents house, where he's been since, packing on the weight and turning out marvelously. I am a rerider...trying to get my balance back, and getting to be a decent rider again. He's a saint and takes care of me.
Three weeks ago, he looked to be good weight, and so I decided to start him slowly. We put in 25 minute rides, 3x a week, and he has noticeably gained some muscle tone. He actually is growing a topline (wow!) and getting strong. Unfortunately, heart surgery occurred for me last Tuesday, so now we're just in the round pen, still getting him strong, but letting me not be jarred. It was a catheter procedure...I'll be fine and ready to ride again, July 1.
So here's some before pictures, and I'll update the blog as I go. This month is going to be pretty boring since I can't eve ride. Milo has almost zero trail experience, so that'll be fun. I am joining a trail riding group here soon, and then I'll be able to get him that experience.
